  • Men’s Ice Hockey’s Lester, Martin Collect NE10 Weekly Awards

    RINDGE, N.H. (January 22, 2019) – Junior forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team has been selected as Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, for the week ending on Jan. 20, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league office. In addition, freshman goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) has been named NE10 Goaltender of the Week.
  • Martin Stands Tall in Net as Men’s Ice Hockey Slips Past SNHU, 2-1 (OT)

    WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 19, 2019) – Making just his fourth start of the year, freshman goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) piled up a season-best 46 saves on Saturday night, to play a huge role in the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team earning two points at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Junior forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) popped home the game-winner 3:33 into overtime, to lift the Ravens to a 2-1 win over Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play.
  • Men’s Ice Hockey Comes up Short on Special Teams in 5-1 Loss at SNHU

    HOOKSETT, N.H. (January 18, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team surrendered three power-play goals in eight chances on the road on Friday night at Southern New Hampshire. To make matters worse, the Ravens would strike only once in nine power-play opportunities of their own, on the way to a 5-1 loss to the Penmen in Northeast-10 Conference play at the Ice Den. Sophomore defenseman Max Kent dished out three assists in the win for SNHU.

    RINDGE, N.H. (January 17, 2019) – With Winter Storm Harper bearing down on the region and forecasts calling for well over a foot of snow Saturday night and through Sunday, several Franklin Pierce University teams have announced changes to their weekend schedule.
  • Men’s Ice Hockey Battles Back to Force 3-3 (OT) Tie at Assumption

    WORCESTER, Mass. (January 15, 2019) – In what served as a nice bounce-back outing after surrendering a two-goal, third-period lead on Saturday, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was able to steal a point on the road in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday night. The Ravens were outshot, 43-19, at Assumption, but were able to erase 2-1 and 3-2 deficits in the third period to forge a 3-3 tie at Buffone Arena. Sophomore forward Justin Blanchette (Monroe, Conn.) scored twice for Franklin Pierce, while freshman forward Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colo.) netted the game-tying tally with just 70 seconds remaining in regulation.
  • Men’s Ice Hockey Unable to Hold Third-Period Lead in 5-4 (OT) Loss to Post

    WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 12, 2019) – Third-period leads of 3-1 and 4-2 would not be enough for the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team on Saturday night, as the Ravens surrendered two goals in the final five minutes of regulation and another 44 seconds into overtime to suffer a 5-4 defeat at the hands of visiting Post. Sophomore forward Evan Lugo scored twice, including the game-winner, for Post, while junior forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) scored twice in defeat for Franklin Pierce in the non-conference affair at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

(January 11, 2019) – A goal apiece in the first and second periods would be enough to get the job done on home ice for the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team on Friday night. The Ravens surrendered a goal early in the third, but held on down the stretch to post a 2-1 win over visiting Post in non-conference play at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Franklin Pierce piled up a season-best 44 shots on goal in the victory.

  • Men’s Ice Hockey Falls to Westfield State, 4-1

    WINCHENDON, Mass. (January 8, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team held its own through the first period on Tuesday night, but the Ravens were then outshot, 28-15, over the final two stanzas at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. The end result was a 4-1, non-conference loss to visiting Westfield State, in a game which saw 17 penalties whistled through just the first two periods. Senior forward Nate Indelicato (Pembroke, Mass.) tallied the lone goal in defeat for Franklin Pierce.
  • Four Find Net as Men’s Ice Hockey Opens 2019 with 4-2 win at Western New England

    WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 4, 2019) – In a tightly-checked game which featured just 44 combined shots, as well as 40 penalty minutes, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team exited the semester break in the win column on the road on Friday afternoon. Four different players found the net for the Ravens, who picked up a 4-2 win over Western New England in non-conference play at Olympia Ice Center.
  • Penalties Hurt Men’s Ice Hockey in 5-3 Loss to UMass Dartmouth

    WINCHENDON, Mass. (December 5, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team found itself shorthanded eight times on Wednesday night, and it proved to be too much at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Massachusetts Dartmouth converted two power-play goals, including the game-winner, to break a 3-3 tie late in the third, as the Corsairs picked up a 5-3 road win over the Ravens in non-conference play. Senior forward Brendan McDonough and senior forward Jonathan Ruiz had a goal and an assist each in the win for UMass Dartmouth, while junior forward Alex Lester (Methuen, Mass.) did the same in defeat for Franklin Pierce.

(December 1, 2018) – A four-goal second period accounted for just half the damage on Saturday night, as the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team dropped an 8-1 decision on the road at Southern New Hampshire in Northeast-10 Conference play. Senior forward Brett Strawn led the way for the Penmen in the victory at the Ice Den, with four points on one goal and three assists.

In addition, freshman forward Anthony Nikolopoulos (Burlington, Mass.) collected NE10 Rookie of the Week honors.
  • Men’s Ice Hockey Blitzed by Fitchburg State, 9-1, in Final of Steve Hoar Invitational

    WORCESTER, Mass. (November 25, 2018) – Just a day after grinding out an important Northeast-10 Conference victory, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team surrendered a 41-26 deficit in shots on goal on Saturday afternoon, in the championship game of the Steve Hoar Invitational, hosted by Becker College. The shots on goal margin spelled a similar disparity in the final score, as Fitchburg State rolled to a 9-1 victory over the Ravens in the non-conference, neutral-site contest at Worcester Ice Center. Sophomore forward Kevin Perry had his first career hat trick in the win for Fitchburg State, while senior forward Nick DiNicola and sophomore forward Sascha Figi each added 1-2-3 for the Falcons.
  • Men’s Ice Hockey Notches Key NE10 Win over Stonehill, 3-1, at Steve Hoar Invitational

    WORCESTER, Mass. (November 24, 2018) – A week after suffering a four-goal defeat on the road at Stonehill, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team struck back against the Skyhawks in a neutral-site Northeast-10 Conference affair on Saturday afternoon. Three different goal-scorers found the net, and sophomore goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) made 37 saves, as the Ravens picked up a 3-1 win in the first round of the Steve Hoar Invitational, hosted by Becker College at Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center.
  • Martin Piles up 40 Saves as Men’s Ice Hockey Edges Framingham State, 3-2

    WINCHENDON, Mass. (November 20, 2018) – Freshman goaltender Kyle Martin (Westford, Mass.) picked up his first collegiate victory in style on Tuesday night for the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team. Martin turned aside 40 of 42 shots in his first career start, including a 16-save second period, as the Ravens held on for a 3-2 victory over visiting Framingham State in non-conference play at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Junior forward Matthew Toombs (Pleasanton, Calif.) had a goal and an assist in the win.

(November 17, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was defeated on the road on Saturday evening at Stonehill, 5-1, in Northeast-10 Conference play at Foxboro Sports Center. Senior forward Shamus Maloney notched his first collegiate hat trick in the victory for Stonehill.
  • FINDING THE RIGHT BLEND: Men’s Ice Hockey Looks to Mix Veterans and Newcomers

    Every great sports team goes through a rebuild. The Golden State Warriors, Chicago Blackhawks and even the Boston Red Sox have gone through their own rebuilds before their current winning ways. That is what the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team went through this past offseason. After a 7-18-1 (3-11-1 Northeast-10 Conference) record last season, head coach Shaun Millerick went on a recruiting spree, as he brought 13 freshmen onto the roster for the start of the 2018-19 season. Introducing so many new faces affects everyone in the locker room in many ways. From freshmen and sophomores battling to earn a spot, to juniors and seniors battling to keep their spot on the roster, 13 new faces can do a lot for a new team.

(November 10, 2018) – Coming off of one of the biggest wins in program history on Tuesday night, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was brought back down to Earth on Friday night at Cairns Arena. The Ravens faced a 43-30 disadvantage in shots on goal, thanks in part to the team being whistled for 10 minor penalties on the night. Saint Michael’s capitalized on three of eight power-play chances and rolled to an 8-2 victory in the Northeast-10 Conference contest.

(November 6, 2018) – Heading into Tuesday, the Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was 0-19-0 in 19 tries against 10-time Northeast-10 Conference champion Saint Anselm. For its part, the Franklin Pierce women’s team was 0-18-1 in 19 attempts against Saint Anselm’s women’s squad. It all added up to an 0-37-1 ledger in 38 games for Ravens hockey against their intrastate rival.

(November 2, 2018) – The Franklin Pierce University men’s ice hockey team was outshot 25-7 through two periods on Friday afternoon, but sophomore goaltender Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) kept the team in the game long enough for the Ravens to find their legs. Wallace held the deficit to 1-0 through two stanzas, and the Ravens got a third-period marker from freshman forward Sean Crowley (Sandown, N.H.) to level things. The game ultimately went to overtime, where freshman forward Chris Stevenson (Arvada, Colo.) provided the game-winner, 3:18 into the extra session.

Lester dished out four assists on the night – one in the first, one in the second and two in the third – to lead the Ravens to a 5-2 victory in their home opener at the Jason Ritchie Ice Arena. Franklin Pierce got goals from five different players, including a pair who notched their first collegiate tallies, in the non-conference win.

Franklin Pierce was outshot, 48-25, in the non-conference contest.
