Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll

Ravens Men's Soccer Men's soccer has been picked to finish fifth in the Northeast-10.

RINDGE, N.H. (August 27, 2014) – The Franklin Pierce University men's soccer team has been selected fifth in the Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced Wednesday by the Conference office. The Ravens tallied 129 points in the 15-team poll.

Coming off an 8-8-2 campaign in 2013, which included a 7-5-1 mark in Northeast-10 play and an appearance in the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 Championship, the Ravens head into their third year under head coach Ian Clerihew in 2014. Forward Dallas Donovan (South Yarmouth, Mass.) and back Bent Johansen (Trondheim, Norway) both return for their sophomore seasons this fall after each earned All-Northeast-10 Third Team honors and All-Rookie Team accolades a year ago. Donovan is the squad's top returning scorer, as he notched 4-1-9 while playing in 13 games in 2013.

Defending national champion Southern New Hampshire (22-1-1, 13-0-0 NE-10 in 2013), which is also the two-time defending Northeast-10 champion, earned 12 of 14 available first-place votes and chalked up 168 points to earn the selection as the preseason favorite. Merrimack (13-4-2, 10-2-1 NE-10) was picked second with 146 points, while Adelphi (11-7-0, 9-4-0 NE-10) collected the remaining two first-place votes and 143 points to be selected third. Southern Connecticut State (10-5-1, 9-3-1 NE-10) was ranked fourth, immediately in front of Franklin Pierce, which rounded out the top five.

Behind the Ravens, Le Moyne (11-7-0, 8-5-0 NE-10) was selected sixth, Bentley (8-8-1, 7-6-0 NE-10) was picked seventh, Saint Rose (8-10-0, 5-8-0 NE-10) was ranked eighth, American International (6-8-3, 4-7-2 NE-10) was chosen ninth and Saint Michael's (5-10-0, 5-8-0 NE-10) rounded out the top 10. Occupying the bottom four positions in the poll were Stonehill (5-10-1, 4-8-1 NE-10) in 11th, New Haven (2-14-1, 2-11-0 NE-10) in 12th, Assumption (5-8-2, 3-8-2 NE-10) in 13th and Saint Anselm (2-14-0, 1-12-0 NE-10) in 14th.

Franklin Pierce opens the 2014 season on Thursday, Sept. 4, when it travels to Post for a non-conference contest. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at LaMoy Field in Waterbury, Conn.
