Pioneers Best Ravens 2-1 In Neutral Site Battle

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (September 5, 2018) – Franklin Pierce University men's soccer sophomore Joel Peterson (Christchurch, New Zealand) cut the deficit to one late in the second half, but a missed penalty kick proved costly as the Ravens suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the previously no. 6 nationally-ranked Long Island University – Post Pioneers Wednesday at the University of Bridgeport. With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 2-1 while the Ravens fall to 1-2.

Just 1:11 into the contest the Pioneers struck first as Lukas Ostermann rifled a through ball to Vittorio Argeri who dribbled the ball past Raven goalkeeper Jadel Poon-Lewis (Diego Martin, Trinidad & Tobago). About a minute later, a foul was called in the box on the Ravens. Lukas Ostermann completed the penalty kick to increase the score to 2-0 early on.

In the second half, Yannik Felber (Vallendar, Germany) was awarded a penalty kick in the 60th minute however, he was stifled by O. Hessner Hansen. In the 90th minute, Felber footed a pass to Peterson for the lone Raven tally.

Ostermann finished the game with three points. Felber led the Ravens in shots while teammate Bastian Thormeier (Munich, Germany) tallied two shots on goal. Poon-Lewis stopped a season-high six shots in the loss while Hansen made three saves.

Franklin Pierce ends their non-conference schedule with a return trip to Bridgeport on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
