Men’s Tennis Downed at Webber International, 7-2

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 20, 2019) – The Franklin Pierce University men's tennis team was defeated on the road on Wednesday, 7-2, in non-conference play at Webber International.

With the loss, Franklin Pierce falls to 5-3, while Webber International improves to 8-6.

Franklin Pierce took one match each in singles and doubles play to pick up its two points on the day. At second doubles, freshman Preston Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and junior Yuval Barak (Zicron Ya'akov, Israel) picked up an 8-6 victory over Webber International junior Matthew Alexander and freshman Christof Buehler. At fourth singles, sophomore Nkrumah Patrick (Tunapuna, Trinidad and Tobago) notched a 6-3, 6-2 win over sophomore Marc Schneider.

The Ravens were also extremely competitive at both first doubles and fifth singles, though both points ultimately went to the Warriors. At first doubles, Patrick and sophomore Roberto Chong (Puigpunyent, Spain) took things to the limit before dropping a 9-7 decision to junior Ivan Bondarenko and senior Tare Mariga. At fifth singles, Barak took the first set, before he was eventually clipped in a tiebreaker set by sophomore Jordi Serrano, who posted a 1-6, 7-6 (4), 10-6 victory.

The Ravens return to the court on Thursday, March 21, when they wrap up their three-match Florida swing with a non-conference contest at Warner at noon in Lake Wales, Fla.
