Novice 4+ Boat Snags Third Place in Petite Finals at Knecht Cup

CHERRY HILL, N.J. (April 14, 2019) – After a couple of weeks off, the Franklin Pierce University rowing program was back in action at the two-day Knecht Cup Regatta on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Novice 4+ boat qualified for the Petite Finals and placed third.

Saturday are the heats and the Ravens Novice 4+ boat, which consisted of junior Jess Buckley (Wareham, Mass.), junior Katrina Grabeau (Nashua, N.H.), freshman Taylor Abbott (Gloucester, Mass.), freshman Alexandra Contino (Galloway, N.J.) and the Coxswain, freshman Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.), qualified for the Petite Finals on Sunday. Pierce finished fourth out of five boats with a time of 8:35.70 just two seconds out of the reach of third place Penn State. 

On Sunday in the Petite Finals, the Crimson and Grey Novice 4+ squad came in third place completing the finals in 8:46.11 three seconds off of Penn State.

Franklin Pierce also fielded another boat, the Varsity 8+ during the cup. The lineup for the Varsity 8+ was senior Sophia Alexandrou (Windham, N.H.), senior Shelby Telega (South Deerfield, Mass.), Grabeau, Buckley, senior Kaitlin Morin (Raymond, N.H.), Abbott, sophomore Katrina Wilson (Rindge, N.H.),  senior Holly Hay (Miller Place, N.Y.) and sophomore Coxswain Allison Lashua (Templeton, Mass.). Pierce took home fourth at 8:08.30.

The rowing team returns to the water on Saturday, April 27th for the NE10 Challenge in Worcester, Mass.
