Simmons Rakes in Opening Week, Gloves Top Rookie Honors

RINDGE, N.H. (March 11, 2019) – Franklin Pierce University softball freshman infielder/catcher Cat Simmons (Pine Plains, N.Y.) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week it was announced Monday afternoon by the league offices.


Simmons appeared in all eight games for the Ravens during their trip to Florida this past week. The freshman slashed .440/.462/.760 (11-for-25) with two homers, six RBI, two doubles and four runs scored. Against Malone on March 8, Simmons was 3-for-4 at the dish with a double, an RBI and one run scored. She followed that up with a 1-for-4, solo homer performance later that day in a 6-0 shutout of Bloomfield. She capped off her successful week going 2-for-3 launching another long ball, adding two more RBI, two runs scored and one walk versus Lake Erie.

Franklin Pierce returns home to New Hampshire before traveling to Pennsylvania for six games in three days. They head to East Stroudsburg University on Saturday for a 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. first pitch.
