SHELTON, Conn. (November 19, 2016) – Junior forward Alex Brolsma (Bloomington, Minn.) set a program record with seven points (2-5-7) and matched a program record with five assists on Saturday afternoon, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team in an 11-0, non-conference win at Post, at Sports Center of Connecticut. Senior forward Michelle Holmes (Goffstown, N.H.) notched her first career hat trick and added an assist for a four-point day, while the Ravens outshot Post, 66-8.
With the win, Franklin Pierce improves to 7-1-0 and has won seven in a row, while Post falls to 0-6-0. For the Ravens, it was the second straight 11-0 win over Post. Franklin Pierce has now struck for double-digit goals three times in program history.
Four goals in the first period would be all Franklin Pierce needed on Saturday afternoon. Senior forward Marisa Ketterman (Palmer, Alaska) opened the scoring at the 11:39 mark, with her fifth goal of the season, while freshman forward Kayla Trujillo (Pueblo, Colo.) chipped in the lone assist. Just 20 seconds later, at the 11:59 mark, Brolsma struck for the first of her seven points, with her seventh goal of the campaign, off of assists from senior forward Alysha Raimo (Fitchburg, Mass.) and Holmes. Holmes would follow with goals at the 15:17 and 19:53 marks, to push the lead to 4-0. Brolsma provided the assist on Holmes' sixth goal of the season, while Brolsma and Raimo had the helpers on her seventh.
The Ravens poured in five goals in the middle frame to balloon the lead to 9-0 and put the game well out of reach. Holmes completed her hat trick in the frame, while Ketterman added a goal and Brolsma struck for her second of the day as well. The highlight of the period for the Ravens was the first collegiate goal for senior forward Casey Diana (Framingham, Mass.), off of assists from Brolsma and senior defenseman Katie Flynn (Sandwich, Mass.). Earlier in the stanza, Diana had notched her first career point, by providing an assist on Holmes' final goal. Brolsma had two assists in the period, while freshman defenseman Bridgette Prentiss (Buffalo, N.Y.) dished out a pair of assists as well.
Franklin Pierce got goals from Raimo and freshman forward Meg Gilbride (Braintree, Mass.) in the third period to create the 11-0 final.
Junior goaltender Madison Murray (Berkley, Mich.) stopped all eight shots she faced in her first collegiate start to pick up the win (1-0-0) and notch the shutout. Freshman Samantha Griswold (0-3-0) tended the Post net for the first two periods and made 44 saves against 53 shots on goal. Fellow freshman Jenna Baumgartner took over in net for the final frame and stopped 11 of 13 shots.
The Ravens return to the ice on Tuesday, Nov. 22, when they travel to Holy Cross for a New England Hockey Conference contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m. at Hart Recreation Center in Worcester, Mass.
