RINDGE, N.H. (January 15, 2019) – Freshman goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Rookie of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 13, as announced on Tuesday morning by the NEWHA.
Ostrander logged all of the team’s time in goal during a 2-0-0 week, including one shutout. Across the two games, she stopped 33 of 35 shots to post a .943 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average to go with the pair of wins. On Tuesday night, Ostrander stopped all 20 shots she faced in a 2-0 win at Suffolk. She followed up with 12 stops against 14 shots on Saturday night at Johnson & Wales, in a 4-2 win.
On the season, Ostrander has laid claim to the team’s starting goaltender position and has now logged nearly 55% of the team’s time in net. Over 619:02 minutes, she has made 239 saves against 256 shots, to put together a .934 save percentage and a 1.65 goals-against average. Ostrander has a 7-3-0 record with three shutouts.
It marked Ostrander’s second straight NEWHA weekly award, as she was lauded as Defensive Player of the Week a week ago. It was her third weekly award of the season, as she also earned Rookie of the Week accolades on one previous occasion.
The Ravens return to the ice on Friday, Jan. 18, when they return home to host Saint Anselm in an NEWHA contest. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
