NEWHA Weekly Release (PDF)
WINTHROP, Mass. (October 8, 2019) – Sophomore goaltender Emme Ostrander (Westborough, Mass.) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s ice hockey team has been named New England Women’s Hockey Alliance Defensive Player of the Week, for the two-week period ending on Oct. 6, as announced on Tuesday by the league office.
In the team’s only game to date, Ostrander minded the net on Sept. 29, in the Ravens’ season-opening loss at New Hampshire. She piled up a program-record 53 saves, against 59 shots, in the defeat. It marked the first-ever 50-save performance in program history.
Due to each of the first two weekends of the season featuring less than a full slate of games for NEWHA members, the first set of weekly awards took into account performances from the first two weeks of play.
The Ravens had a bye weekend last week and will return to the ice on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12, when they open the home portion of their schedule by hosting Post in an NEWHA weekend series. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena in Winchendon, Mass.
