MANSFIELD, Mass. (August 15, 2019) – Fresh off Northeast-10 Conference regular season and postseason titles in 2018, the No. 14 nationally ranked Franklin Pierce University women’s soccer team has been selected to repeat as the NE10 champion in 2019. The Ravens collected seven of 14 available first-place votes to take home the top spot in the NE10 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, which was released on Thursday afternoon by the league office.
The seven first-place votes were part of the 160 points collected in the poll by the Ravens (16-2-2, 11-1-2 NE10 in 2018), who held a five-point margin over intrastate rival Southern New Hampshire (14-4-3, 10-2-2 NE10), which was picked second with five first-place votes. Saint Rose (13-5-4, 9-3-2 NE10) took third with 142 points and Adelphi (8-7-1, 7-7-0 NE10) was picked fourth with 132 points, as the Golden Knights and Panthers split the remaining two first-place votes. Stonehill (13-7-0, 10-4-0 NE10) rounded out the top five with 114 points.
The poll was determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
The Ravens – who have made back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship field – are scheduled to open the 2019 campaign at home on Friday, Sept. 6, against Nyack, with a 4 p.m. kickoff. The team will open its Northeast-10 Conference schedule eight days later, at home against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m.
