Pair of Ravens compete in 100-meter hurdles
Souliere was one of four Ravens in action at the New England Championships on Friday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. (May 9, 2014) – Freshman Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) finished 12th in the javelin on Friday afternoon to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team on the first day of the NEICAAA (New England) Championships, hosted by Westfield State.
Gagnon's throw of 38.04 meters was more than two meters off of her best throw of the year, but was only 0.22 meters from earning a top-10 finish. In addition, the freshman was less than 1.50 meters from earning All-New England status on Friday.
A pair of Ravens competed in the 100-meter hurdles on Friday at Westfield State. Freshman Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) posted a time of 15.68 seconds to finish 33rd, while sophomore Jackie Price (Brick, N.J.) stopped the clock at 15.97 seconds to finish 36th.
Freshman Melanie Hill (Danbury, Conn.) qualified for the New England Championships in the heptathlon, and competed in the first four events on Friday, with the remaining three to follow on Saturday. Among 10 competitors, she finished 10th in the 100-meter hurdles (18.12) for 476 points, tied for ninth in the high jump (1.31m) for 419 points, placed ninth in the shot put (8.59m) for 438 points and finished fourth in the 200 meters (27.21) for 694 points. Overall, she collected 2027 points and is currently in 10th place.
Franklin Pierce wraps up the New England Championships on Saturday, when it is scheduled to have competitors in four events.
