Comstock School Record Leads Women’s Track & Field on Busy Day at Tigers All Comers Invitational

BOSTON (January 14, 2017) – Freshman Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) established a new school record in the shot put on Saturday, leading the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team at the RCC Tigers All Comers Invitational, hosted by Roxbury CC.

Comstock was good enough to win the shot put on Saturday, with her heave of 11.80 meters breaking the school record and being enough to move her into ninth place in the Northeast-10 Conference on the year. She led a Franklin Pierce shot put group which took four of the top five positions in the event. Freshman Jen Iozzi (Cranston, R.I.) took third (11.00m), sophomore Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.) was fourth (10.92m) and freshman Savannah Drowne (Athol, Mass.) finished fifth (10.51m).

Many of the same faces were a part of a similar performance by the Ravens in the weight throw, as they took four of the top five spots there as well. This time, senior Kendra Plant (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up the victory, with a throw of 13.68 meters. She was followed by Iozzi in third (11.46m), Drowne in fourth (10.72m) and Covington in fifth (10.15m).

Elsewhere in field events, sophomore Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) picked up a pair of wins on the day. She posted a mark of 5.08 meters to win the long jump, and also put together a triple jump of 11.00 meters to win there, as well. In the long jump, she was followed by senior Samantha Toscano (Northwood, N.H.), who took second with a leap of 4.88 meters.

Out on the track, freshman Ayodele Ouhuru (Montvale, N.J.) was one of two Ravens to qualify for the final in the 60-meter dash. She would finish third, with a time of 8.00 seconds, which was good enough to move her into a tie for 11th in the NE10. Senior Nicole Galewski (Weymouth, Mass.) followed in fifth place, with a time of 8.14 seconds. Elsewhere on the track, junior Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) took fourth in the 400 meters (1:03.29), while freshman Eileen Savinelli (Goffstown, N.H.) placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (10.24).

Two other Ravens posted top-five finishes in field events. Senior Shannon Coffey (Bohemia, N.Y.) was the only competitor in the pole vault and cleared 2.15 meters to finish first, while freshman Olivia Mabbett (Milford, N.H.) placed fourth in the high jump, by clearing 1.45 meters.

The Ravens return to action on Sunday, Nov. 22, when they travel back to Boston for the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational.
