Souliere Lowers 60m Hurdles Program Record, Leads Women’s Track & Field at Jay Carisella Invite

BOSTON (December 10, 2016) – Senior Breigh Souliere (Cumberland, R.I.) led the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track and field team on Saturday, with a program-record run in the 60-meter hurdles at the Jay Carisella Invite, hosted by Northeastern.

The Ravens sent select athletes to Northeastern on Saturday, after the full squad was in action on Friday at Plymouth State. Souliere's program-record mark of 9.08 seconds came in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles. Her time was good enough to win her heat, and ranked second among all preliminary times. Souliere followed up with a time of 9.18 seconds in the final, to finish second.

Franklin Pierce collected three other top-five finishes of note at the Jay Carisella Invite, including another school record. In field events, sophomore Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) turned in a triple jump mark of 11.48 meters, which was good enough for second place and a program record. The mark would have also been good enough to qualify for the NEICAAA Championships in the event, though Baah had already secured her spot earlier in the season.

Meanwhile, in the weight throw, junior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) picked up a fourth-place finish, with a throw of 15.09 meters. Back on the track, junior Alexa Cassara (Bay Shore, N.Y.) ran a time of 3:09.05 to finish fifth.

Two other Ravens put together performances worth noting on Saturday as well. In the 3000 meters, freshman Julia Cormier (Northwood, N.H.) finished eighth, with a time of 11:07.85. In the 60-meter dash, it was a run of 8.01 seconds for freshman Ayodele Ouhuru (Montvale, N.J.), who finished ninth.

The Ravens return to the track on Sunday, Jan. 8, at the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
