Galewski Hits NCAA Provisional Mark in Heptathlon for Women’s Track & Field on Second Day of Silfen Invitational

NEW LONDON, Conn. (April 14, 2018) – Graduate student Nicole Galewski (Whitman, Mass.) notched a school record and hit the NCAA Championships provisional qualifying standard while winning the heptathlon on Saturday, to lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field day on the second day of the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College. Ultimately, the Ravens finished 12th, out of 19 teams to score at the meet.

The Ravens notched 25 points over the course of the weekend on the way to their 12th-place finish. At the top of the heap, Stonehill rolled to the team title with 189 points. The Skyhawks posted a victory of just shy of 100 points over second-place Tufts (89.5 points), while host Connecticut College rounded out the top three (82 points).

Galewski picked up 10 points for the team with her first-place finish in the heptathlon. She finished second in the heptathlon's 800 meters on Saturday, with a time of 2:31.68, on the way to her 4488-point performance. The point total currently ranks 22nd in the nation.

The Ravens also got scoring performances on Saturday from seniors Miranda Gagnon (Rollinsford, N.H.) and Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.), as each picked up five points with fourth-place finishes. Gagnon took fourth in the javelin, with a throw of 36.85 meters, while Quinn placed fourth in the hammer, with a heave of 47.93 meters.

Elsewhere, Franklin Pierce added a quartet of top-10 finishes, as junior Kendra Covington (Torrington, Conn.) and freshman Alyssa Harris (Billerica, Mass.) each posted a pair of ninth-place finishes. Covington did so in the shot put (11.27m) and the hammer (43.32m), while Harris did so out on the track, in the 100- (12.91) and 200-meter (26.49) dashes.

The Ravens return to action on April 17-18, when select participants head to the Holy Cross Multis in Worcester, Mass.
