Comstock Nets School Record as Women’s Track & Field Wins PSU Winter Classic

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (December 9, 2017) – Sophomore Katey Comstock (Windsor, Vt.) bettered her own school record in the shot put on Saturday, to help lead the way for the Franklin Pierce University women's track & field team. The Ravens added four event wins and 12 top-three finishes on the day to take first place at the PSU Winter Classic, hosted by Plymouth State.

In all, Franklin Pierce collected 144 points to win the eight-team meet. The Ravens had less than a 10-point margin of victory over second-place Fitchburg State (134.5 points), while fellow Northeast-10 Conference member Southern New Hampshire placed third (114.5 points).

Comstock's school-record heave was 12.59 meters, which was also good enough to meet the NEICAAA Championships qualifying mark and finish second. The Ravens had one other participant meet the NEICAAA standard on Saturday, though she had already punched her ticket at the season's opening meet. Senior Emily Quinn (West Bridgewater, Mass.) finished second in the weight throw with a toss of 15.74 meters.

Each of the four event wins for Franklin Pierce came out on the track, and freshman Alyssa Harris (Billerica, Mass.) led the way with a double. She finished first in both the 60-meter dash (8.05) and the 200-meter dash (26.54). At longer distances, sophomore Rebecca Zylak (Goffstown, N.H.) was victorious in the 1600 meters (5:33.94), while freshman Marissa Farago (Salisbury, Mass.) took the top spot in the 3000 meters (11:11.16). Zylak also finished second behind Farago in the 3000 meters, with a run of 11:21.46.

The Ravens picked up one other individual top-three finish on the track, as freshman Megan Holland (Clermont, Fla.) finished second in the 800 meters (2:35.46). Holland also led a 4x400-meter relay team which placed second as well. She teamed with senior Natalie Davies (Ware, Mass.), sophomore Meghan Tarr (Atkinson, N.H.) and freshman Ashley Haluch (Enfield, Conn.) to post a time of 4:28.27.

Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce added three other top-three finishes in field events, in addition to the work done by Comstock and Quinn. Junior Lilian Baah (Danielson, Conn.) provided a pair on her own, as she finished second in the triple jump (11.03m) and third in the long jump (4.89m). Fellow junior Karlee Daub (Hershey, Pa.) added a second-place finish in the high jump (1.45m).

The Ravens now head into the semester break and return to action on Jan. 5-7, when they send select athletes to the Dartmouth Relays in Hanover, N.H.
