RINDGE, N.H. (March 25, 2019) – Freshman Paola Brena (Queretaro, Mexico) of the Franklin Pierce University women’s track & field team has been named Northeast-10 Conference Women’s Rookie Field Athlete of the Year for the indoor season, as announced late last week by the NE10.
The major NE10 awards were voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Brena captured the NE10 title in the high jump earlier this month, when she made her NE10 Championships debut. Her season-best mark was 1.70 meters, which established a new school record and would ultimately earn her a ticket to the NCAA Championships. Brena earned All-New England and All-East Region honors in the high jump.
Brena is the third member of the Franklin Pierce cross country/track & field program to earn Rookie of the Year accolades from the NE10. Aidan Gilbride was named men’s cross country Rookie of the Year in 2016, while Katie Purves earned Rookie Track Athlete of the Year honors for the 2017 outdoor season.
